CINCO DE MAYO

There are a few different events connected to the celebration of Cinco De Mayo. One of them is the Cinco Fiesta at the Hawaiian Events Center and another is the block party and after party taking place in Downtown Chinatown on Nuuanu St, between Puahi & King St. And the last is an adult-only beach party taking place in Kuhio Beach Park with live music and dancing and a bonfire tended by the Honolulu Fire Department. The beach party will start around sunset and continue late into the night and early into the next morning.

FOOD TRUCK FESTIVAL

Every second friday of the month Kaka'ako Beach Park welcomes over 40 food trucks, crafters and local vendors. The event starts at 4pm and carries on past midnight with live music and dancing.

ST. PATRICK'S DAY BLOCK PARTY

11AM- Murphy’s Bar and Grill opens at 11AM serving traditional Irish fare such as: Corned Beef and Cabbage, Gaelic Steak, Caesar Salad topped with Sweet Chili Salmon and Irish Whiskey Cake, Bread Pudding and Key Lime Pie for dessert. Any profits from this menu is donated to the Pediatric Ward at Queen’s Medical Center. 12-3PM- Additional food items such as fish and chips/ souveniers can be purchased from booths set up across the street. The St. Patrick’s Day parade starts at noon, followed by the Keiki Fair. 5PM- Streets are blocked to start the block party at 6pm and kids are not recommended. The night will be filled with live music, booths, and dancing!

AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION BLIND DATE

[b][u]What?:[/u][/b] Blind Date Night Benefitting the American Heart Association, catering donated by Elite Events and featuring a Hawaiian style BBQ or pasta choices.

[b][u]Where?:[/u][/b] Ocean Lawn @ The Royal Hawaiian. Tables for two have been set up underneath fancy strings of lantern lights between the palm trees.

NEW YEAR'S EVE @ RUMFIRE

One of the hottest New Years Eve parties in Oahu boasts the best view of the Waikiki fireworks to kick off 2017. With four live DJ’s and live entertainment guests gather at the edge of the Infinity & Helemoa pool for the view and dancing. VIP packages & tickets are also sold to the Champagne Room, a private bar within the celebration.

JINGLE BALL

Join the Moana Surfrider Hotel in kicking off the holiday season with their annual ‘Jingle Ball’ and Tree Lighting; both of which will benefit the Trauma Division of Queen’s Medical Center. The night kicks off with a three-course catered meal followed by a live theatre performance from the Theatre students of Hawaii Pacific University and dancing then eventually the tree lighting at midnight.
What? 5th Annual ‘Jingle Ball’ catered by Vintage 1901 Restaurant benefiting the Trauma Division of Queen’s Medical Center & Surfrider Tree Lighting. Where? Moana Surfrider Hotel Banquet Room & Terrace.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Everyone celebrates the holiday season a bit differently and has their own set of traditions so we have opened up this broad event forum to work the same way as the Halloween event.
We are asking all holiday themed threads to take place in this board! This board will be open from [b]November 25th – January 1st [/b]though as every other past event, this board will then just move to the past events board and threads can still be continued until they are finished.
We are going to include a [b]Jingle Ball[/b] event and more information on it can be found [URL=http://mahalo.jcink.net/index.php?showforum=194]here[/URL]. We are also offering a [b]gift[/b] section specifically for the holiday season for those characters giving gifts.

DOWNGRADED TYPHOON

extreme weather warning issued for oahu coastline
just after halloween has passed there has been an extreme weather warning issued for the coastline of oahu and even further inland on the island. from november 1st to 5th . three storms are expected to touch down in a series of typhoon-like weather. strong winds and unpredictable tides are expected as well as flooding predicted from excessive rain. residents are recommended to prepare accordingly for power outages and try to remain indoors.

keep in mind that you can be creative with the amount of damage that this storm inflicted on your characters, but you are also welcome to have them unaffected by it!

this event will run from october 25th – november 25th giving a full month for threads, but the storms themselves took place between november 5th and november 10th.

HALLOWEEN

I know that there are a lot of people that are still busy with getting adjusted to school, work, etc. so I wanted to make sure that everyone had more than enough time for Halloween Events! The forum itself is going to be the broad and vague category for them all so if you are making an open thread in one of them please make sure to include which one your character is at so that the other person knows!

Halloween Masquerade
Hosted at the Moana Surfrider Hotel; dance to GhostBusters, Thriller and all other classic Halloween music. This event is 21+ and not kid friendly as the hotel is licensed and serving alcohol all night. It also requires costumes!

Trick or Treating @ Honolulu Zoo
An alternative to going from door to door for anyone with kids. The zoo is hosting trick of treaters with booths set up at every exhibit, hay rides, costume contests as well as face painting and the monster mash. Admission is ½ price for anyone in costume!

Haunted Maze
Hosted at Diamond Head National Park the Hawaii Pacific University students have spent the last month setting up their maze and hiring actor/ actresses to scare the people completing the terrifying maze that spans over 5 acres. This event is recommended 14+.

Zombie Paintball
Extreme Sports Paintballing has relocated for Sthe Halloween season to a farmers field just outside of Honolulu. Armed with paintball guns teams of 5-10 are sent out to ‘rescue’ the trapped civilians at different check points in the game. ‘Zombies’ have been set loose throughout the entire five acres.

All these events are going to run from September 12th until November 1st! Participation in any of these events with a post in the outfit thread can claim an award. Remember you must post in the outfit thread even if your character is not dressing up for the event that they are attending!

TWILIGHT CONCERT SERIES & CAMPOUT

Where? Diamond Head Park

When? August 13th - 15th

What? A weekend series of twilight concerts and camping! Set up your tents on Friday night and camp out for the weekend and mingle with new people. Foodtrucks will be present for the weekend and there will be a bonfire with smores and scary stories after the music concludes each of the three nights.

THE CIRCUS

A dynamic duo of 10 years, Eoghan O’Neill and Crescentia (Belle) Wilson have never quite achieved the spotlight they always dreamed of. 2 years ago, they decided to set up their own circus, starting in Hawaii, with the ambition to grow better and bigger, and travel the world. While the circus has not gotten off its feet in quite the way that they were expecting they are hoping that with one final push they will achieve their dreams of a travelling performance. Televised by Hawaiia Now News with flyers plastered all over the town of Honolulu they have paired up with food trucks and vendors alike for a spectacular carnival week. Come enjoy the main act, stuff yourself with fair food or win your significant other a teddy bear at one of the carnival games!

When? August 1-7th (The event will run from July 24th – September 1st on the site!)

What? A Cirque Du Soleil –esque performance with acrobats and circus performers as well as a full night full of fair food and carnival games and booths!

LUAU

‘a traditional hawaiian party which usually includes a feast & dancing’

set on june 2nd 2016 a large strip of waikiki has been sectioned off for the traditional luau welcoming summer and the start of one of the busiest times of the tourist season. the event includes a feast, sand castle building competition and polynesian/ hula dance lessons ending with a movie under the stars.

this event will run from june 3rd until july 3rd.

this will be an event where you can sign your characters up for a luau blind date where proceeds will support the hawaiian conservation & enviromental alliance. they will be paired up with a character they do not known for a thread roulette, rapid-fire thread. non-roulette threads are welcome as well for the event. you may sign up between june 3rd and june 10th and the pairs will be put up on june 11th.

HEATWAVE & ELECTRICAL STORM

a heat wave consisting of temperatures soaring above 100 degrees will be scorching honolulu between may 18th - may 24th; residents and tourists alike are warned to limit their exposure time and stay hydrated. due to the high uv index they are advised against being outside in the peak afternoon times between 12-4pm.

it is predicted that the heat wave will break late may 25th and a storm warning has been issued. with increasingly dry weather and the possibility of thunder and lightning there has been a fire warning issued as well as a possible flood warning when the rain starts. the storm is predicted to last until the morning of may 27th and emergency preparations should be made in case of loss of power.

this event is going to run from may 17th – june 17th and is open for all kinds of threads; you can have storm threads or you can have heatwave threads, whatever you desire. the power in most of honolulu will be out the night of may 26th but will be restored on may 27th and the storm will be a raging wind, thunder and lightning storm with rain.

SUPERHERO RUN/ WALK

what? 2016 superhero 5k run/ walk benefitting kapiʻolani medical center for women and children.

when? april 18th, run starts at: 7:30 am, walk starts at: 9 am

where? start point is ala moana blvd and will end there with a large bbq and picnic.

a donation of $20 + is suggested and while costumes are not mandatory they are highly suggested!

BURNING BOAT FESTIVAL

annual lantern festivals are a very important part of ancient chinese tradition and oahu’s burning boat festival stems from the same concept, hosted by hawaii pacific university. it was deemed by the ocean safety patrol that releasing paper lanterns would be too harmful to the sealife that calls hawaii their home so instead the university students construct a large bonfire to look like a boat which is set on fire for a large bonfire. each person attending is given a piece of paper where they can write a regret that they wish to let go of and toss into the flames.

this celebration kicks off the summer season and is a wild party into the wee hours of the morning. for the night camping is opened up in the park beside the beach and many attendees choose to sleep the party off there.

everyone is welcome! event takes place on friday april 15th and characters can camp until april 16th. this board will be running until may 15th!

HPD POLICE GALA

what? hpd police ball supporting ‘make-a-wish hawaii.’ featuring live music, a silent auction, dancing and cocktails.

where? the royal hawaiian hotel

when? april 10th 2016; doors open at 7pm

who? open to the public, come out and support the local honolulu police department and ‘make-a-wish hawaii.’ tickets are $35 or donation. attire: cocktail attire and hpd officers in uniform.

MARDI GRAS

while traditionally mardi gras is celebrated in louisiana, hawaii has a bit of a tradition to have their own celebration on the island. on the night of february 27th, the famous kalakaua avenue is shut down to cars and the party begins. masks and costumes line the entire upbeat festival with parades and live music. honolulu has transformed their own festival into; a parade, food trucks, live outdoor concerts, dancing, a full scale carnival and of course all the mardi gras beads to go along with it!

when: timeline wise this event takes place a few weeks after the storm has ended; february 27th and february 28th

where: kalakaua avenue

who: kids are welcome before 9pm when the partying then turns more adult for the rest of the evening.

this event will run from february 22nd until april 1st so you have plenty of time to get your threads in!

TROPICAL STORM

while hurricane season in hawaii runs between june and november there is a severe weather warning a storm stet to hit between 11pm and 2am on friday february 5th that could last for 48-72 hours. we are expecting enough rain to possibly cause flooding and gusts of wind that may affect people’s power along with thunder and lightning.

beachside residents are being cautioned to move inland to avoid the large waves that may be a factor in this storm. emergency precautions have been taken and all government offices will be closed from february 5th until further notice and private companies are urged to do the same. ocean safety officers will be enforcing a ‘dry land only policy’ for the residents and tourists safety.

GREAT GATSBY NEW YEAR'S PARTY

Set amidst the ‘Roaring Twenties’ the tale of the Great Gatsby was one of social excess and the evolution of jazz music, flapper culture, bootlegging and other criminal activity. The Westheim Hotel has been decorated accordingly with an excessive amount of glitter, endless flowing Mint Juleps, and lively swing/ jazz music.

TOYS FOR TOT'S DATE AUCTION

Does your character want to donate to the Toys for Tots campaign? They can either donate an unwrapped new toy or donate money and recieve a ticket for the Great Gatsby New Years Party and a blind date to go along with it!

How is this going to work?: You are going to post in here with the characters you would like to participate with, please give us five facts about the character which will be given to the person they are paired off with so they can have something to talk about! You have until december 19th to post in here and on december 19th the draw will be made and the New Years event will be opened and you can get posting with your blind dates!

Billabong Pipeline Masters

The Billabong Pipeline Masters is an event in surfing held annually at Banzai Pipeline in Oahu, Hawaii. It was established in 1970 and attracts the top 45 surfers from The World Surf League (WSL) as well as 16 surfers who compete in walk on trials. The surfers compete for a share of US $425,000 prize money. The event is the final leg of the Triple Crown of Surfing and the final event on the WSL Championship Tour.The event draws large crowds and even larger crowd for the after parties.
